Privacy policy

In short: Within Reason collects no data about you. The coach runs on your iPhone. What you use, what you type, your sleep and your calendar stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.

What the app uses, on your iPhone only

• Screen Time. With your permission, the app uses Apple’s Screen Time features to measure time on the apps you choose, to nudge you, and to block those apps when you ask it to. Apple doesn’t let apps send this information anywhere, and we never use it for advertising or share it.
• What you type. Your goals and the reasons you give when you ask for time are read by an AI model running on your iPhone: Apple’s built-in model, or one the app downloads once. They are not sent to us or to anyone else.
• Sleep and calendar, if you turn them on. The app can read last night’s sleep from Apple Health and your next event from Calendar, so the coach knows when you need to be asleep. They are read on your iPhone when you ask for time, and are never stored elsewhere or sent anywhere.
• Your history. A log of nudges, blocks and requests is kept on your iPhone, one file per day, for up to eight weeks. It’s used for today’s conversation and your weekly review. You can delete it anytime in Settings, and deleting the app deletes all of it.
• Notifications are created on your iPhone. No push server is involved.

What leaves your iPhone

• The model download. On iPhones without Apple Intelligence, the app downloads its AI model once (about 3.1 GB) from Hugging Face. Like any download, their servers see your IP address and the file requested. Nothing about you or your use of the app is sent with it.
• Purchases. Subscriptions and purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We don’t receive your name, email or payment details. Apple gives developers anonymous sales reports.

What we don’t do

• No accounts or sign-in.
• No analytics or crash-reporting services inside the app.
• No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, and no data brokers.
• We never sell or share data, because we don’t have any.

This website

withinreason.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

If you email us

If you write to support@withinreason.app, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we don’t add you to any list.

Children

Within Reason collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If the app ever needed to collect anything, we would say so here and in the App Store before doing it.
